Quick-Start Guides

Quick-start - RFID SSO for local Windows workstations

We will set up RFID SSO for local Windows workstations. When user taps the badge, she can access any local workstation with an assigned shared account.

Sign up for idemeum tenant

If you have not signed up for idemeum tenant yet, please follow the steps below to create a trial tenant for your organization.

Please sign up for a customer tenant, not an MSP one.
How to create idemeum cloud tenant
Create idemeum cloud tenant for your organization so that you can test various idemeum services.

Set up local directory

The easiest way to manage your passwordless users is with idemeum local directory. To enable local directory:

  • Navigate to your-domain.idemeum.com/adminportal
  • Access UsersUser source and choose Local
  • Save the configuration

Create users

For this use case we will leverage manual onboarding, meaning you will create a user and assign associated badge id to that user. You can learn more about RFID other user onboarding methods here.

  • Navigate to your-domain.idemeum.com/adminportal
  • Access UsersUser managementAdd user
  • Now enter user information including company email address and associated badge id
  • Save the user record
🔰
It is important to enter the badge id in the format that is generated by your RFID reader. You can learn more about formatting here.

Connect RFID readers

idemeum supports integration with rf IDEAS readers today. We leverage universal SDK to connect to these readers and obtain card data.

Make sure you leverage reader configuration utility to set up reader formatting so that the number that is generated by the reader matches the badge ID number that you created in the user directory. More about the readers here.

Install idemeum desktop client

idemeum desktop client is what handles passwordless login with RFID badges. Desktop client can be deployed silently to a fleet of Windows workstations, or can be installed manually with UI.

Follow the steps here to perform manual installation.

Assign shared account to a workstation

When users tap the badge, they will access the workstation with a preassigned shared account. Therefore, we need to configure shared account username and password for each workstation. We can easily do this leveraging idemeum cloud.

Detailed guide on how to assign a shared account to a workstation:

Shared account configuration
You can assign a shared account to a workstation, and everyone who will access this workstation with RFID badge or mobile device will be signed in with that shared account.
If the account you assign does not exist on the workstation, idemeum will create it on the fly with the username and password you specified.
  • Navigate to your-domain.idemeum.com/adminportal
  • Click on Devices left menu
  • Locate the workstation that you want to assign shared account to
  • Click on ... and choose Configure shared account
  • Provide the account username and password
  • Save the configuration

Login with RFID badge

You can now start testing RFID SSO with the users that you created in the local directory. User taps the badge, badge id is validated with idemeum cloud, and the user should be logged into the workstation with an assigned shared account.
